Activities & Experiences

The cycling is just the beginning. When the wheels stop, Ghana doesn't.

1

Accra & Cape Coast

Accra

Ghana's capital is a city that pulses with energy, color, and culture — and exploring it on the ground is an experience unto itself. Wander through the vibrant stalls of Makola Market, where traders sell everything from spices and fabrics to electronics and handmade crafts. Accra's food culture is a destination in its own right: street food scenes, local chop bars, and upscale restaurants serve everything from smoky jollof rice and fresh tilapia to globally-inspired cuisine prepared by a new generation of Ghanaian chefs.

The city's landmarks tell the story of a nation that has both celebrated and wrestled with its history. Visit Independence Square, the National Museum of Ghana, or the W.E.B. Du Bois Center — a significant site connecting the African diaspora to the continent. The artistic community flourishes in neighborhoods like Osu and Labadi, where galleries, live music venues, and creative spaces thrive side by side.

Cape Coast

A two-hour drive west of Accra, Cape Coast is one of the most historically significant places in West Africa. The Cape Coast Castle and nearby Elmina Castle — both UNESCO World Heritage Sites — stand as solemn monuments to the transatlantic slave trade. Touring these sites is a profound, necessary experience that thousands of visitors from the African diaspora make every year in a journey of return and reconciliation.

Beyond the castle walls, Cape Coast offers breathtaking Atlantic coastlines where fishing communities have worked the sea for generations. Watch the colorful wooden pirogues launch at dawn, explore the local fishing harbors, and stroll along beaches where the land meets the Gulf of Guinea. The natural landscape around Cape Coast — including the nearby Kakum National Park canopy walkway — adds an additional layer of adventure to the cultural richness of the region.

Kumasi

Full Tour Participants

The capital of the Ashanti Region, Kumasi is the cultural heartbeat of Ghana — a city where royal tradition, artisan craft, and daily life intersect in extraordinary ways. Full Tour participants fly into Kumasi as part of the itinerary and experience:

Adinkra Craft Village

Watch master artisans hand-stamp traditional Adinkra symbols onto cloth using hand-carved calabash stamps and natural dyes — an ancient practice still very much alive today.

Manhyia Palace

The seat of the Ashanti Kingdom. Tour the palace and museum to understand the rich history, royal regalia, and enduring influence of the Asantehene — the Ashanti King.

Kente Weaving

Witness the intricate art of kente weaving up close. Each strip of this iconic cloth carries meaning — color, pattern, and proverb woven together into a living language.

Kejetia Market

One of the largest markets in West Africa. An overwhelming, exhilarating, unmissable sensory experience — fresh produce, textiles, crafts, and the commerce of an entire region under one roof.

Shopping, Arts & Cultural Experiences

Shopping & Craftsmanship

Ghana's artisan culture is world-class — and deeply personal. Whether you are sourcing a hand-dyed Adinkra textile, selecting a custom-woven kente strip, threading through a collection of hand-rolled glass beads from Krobo, or choosing a piece of batik fabric printed with beeswax and bold patterns, every item you bring home carries a story and a craft tradition that stretches back centuries. Local markets and artisan co-ops offer opportunities to meet the makers directly and understand the meaning behind what you are purchasing.

Arts & Cultural Experiences

Ghana's contemporary arts scene is as dynamic as its traditions are deep. From independent galleries in Accra showcasing the next generation of Ghanaian painters and sculptors, to live performances of highlife music — the country's signature genre born in the coastal cities — to storytelling evenings and drumming demonstrations that connect visitors to the rhythms that have animated West African culture for millennia. Every evening in Ghana has the potential to become a memory you carry for a lifetime.
